We got here in '76 but I didn't become aware of them until they showed up here. We've had a family for the past 30 years, at least. The cactus is a booger-bear to prune and isn't a popular yard decoration, but the thrashers make it worthwhile. They often winter over.
Curved-billed thrashers are common in Tucson. Never saw or heard one in Wisconsin.
