Dear Community,
I want to share something deeply personal with you.
Recently, I was interviewed by the Coming Home channel on YouTube about a near-death experience I had in 2013. That video has now reached more than 700,000 views, and I have been genuinely overwhelmed (in the best possible way) by the thoughtful, heartfelt responses pouring in from people around the world.
Before you watch, I want to be clear about my intention. I am not trying to convince anyone of anything, nor challenge anyone's beliefs. I am simply telling the story of my lived experience. Please take what resonates with you and leave what doesn't. The views expressed in this interview are entirely my own and do not represent the New Mexico Deathcare Network.
I'm sharing this because I want you to know who I am, not just as the founder and executive director of NMDN, but as a person. This experience quietly underpins everything I do. It is the reason end-of-life care, dignity, and access to support for everyone matter so deeply to me. If you've ever wondered what drives my commitment to this work, this story is a large part of that answer.
Sharing something this personal so openly feels both terrifying and right. Thank you for holding space for the fullness of my humanity, just as we strive to do for every individual and family we have the privilege of serving. If this story feels like something that might offer comfort or meaning to someone in your life, please feel free to pass it along.
With care and gratitude,
Danielle Slupesky
NMDN Founder & Executive Director
