This relatively (relative to Mar a Lago 'n' such) small abode had at one end a single large bedroom with its own jacuzzi and large walk-in closets. I slept at the other end of the house in the two-bedroom wing designed for guests.
She kept a modest $5k in her checking account for day-to-day needs while accumulating frequent flier miles on our overnight jaunts and other entertainments. Her S.S. check was a barely note-worthy addition to her retirement income. But for her avarice, she'd never have missed it.
Here's an article from last year that gives some interesting insights.
Eliminating the cap or even raising it modestly solves the problem. It's not even clear that the wealthy are apposed to raising the cap but are more opposed to the the working stiffs receiving a benefit. I hit the cap for each of the last ten years I was working and would not have cared were it higher. As a kid in a single parent family I benefited from a small survivor's benefit check that assured I'd at least have new shoes once in a while and warm winter coat. Republicans have been zeroing in on Social Security for a long time. You can be assured that the benefit will be taxed fully (went to 50% with Reagan), the benefit indexed to income, the COL frozen, the benefits reduced, the retirement year increasing, etc. Look up Curtis Yarvin...spiritual leader of these creeps.
